Alan Hanjalic is Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Multimedia Information Retrieval Lab at the Delft University of Technology. He was a visiting scientist at Hewlett-Packard Labs, British Telecom Labs, Philips Research and Microsoft Research Asia. The fundamental question Dr. Hanjalic is interested in is how to provide efficient and intuitive content-based access to large multimedia data collections in various socio-economic application contexts. His research approach is interdisciplinary and combines multimedia data processing, user preference estimation and social networks analysis. He leads the FES COMMIT project SEALINCMedia and was a Steering Board member of the EU Network of Excellence PetaMedia.
